INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORIES: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR
ACADEMIC LIBRARIES
OBJECTIVE
Knowing experiences and best practices in the management of Institutional
Repositories in Latin America to enhance their impact and visibility.
DESCRIPTION
Institutional Repositories are important for universities as they provide a
platform that makes their participation in open science possible. This allows
them to have an open access organizational memory and capitalize on their
intellectual assets as part of their institutional contribution to society. Likewise,
professors and researchers also use the Institutional Repository to increase their
visibility and enhance collaboration with other academic peers.
However, the majority of Institutional Repositories initiatives have challenges
and opportunities regarding their internal operation (i.e. lack of specialized
personnel, fulfillment of their premises and goals (visibility, impact
measurement), including institutional recognition and exposure (awareness).
