University leaders from across the Consortium will gather at Universidad de los Andes on August 31 and September 1 to strengthen collaboration, welcome new members, and shape HUC’s priorities for 2027.
The Hemispheric University Consortium will hold its 2026 General Assembly on August 31 and September 1 at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. Presidents, rectors, institutional officers, faculty members, and representatives from HUC member universities will come together for two days of strategic dialogue, collaborative work, and exchange.
Sustainability will provide the overarching framework for this year’s gathering, connecting the Assembly’s discussions with the Consortium’s commitment to addressing shared challenges across the Americas through education, research, and institutional cooperation.
The program will begin with a welcome dinner on Sunday, August 30, followed by two working days organized around Governance, Community & Impact and Strategy & Projection.
Among the main highlights will be the presentation of the HUC Annual Report, which will review the Consortium’s progress and the initiatives developed by its member universities over the past year. The Assembly will also include “HUC in Perspective: A Conversation with the Presidents,” a high-level dialogue on the role of university collaboration in responding to regional and global challenges.
Representatives from two new member universities—Université de Montréal and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)—will also participate in the General Assembly. Their incorporation will strengthen HUC’s presence and representation in North America while creating new opportunities for academic and institutional collaboration across the Consortium. A special ceremony will mark their official integration into HUC and the signing of the corresponding accession documents.
Participants will also take part in collaborative workshops designed to identify new opportunities for cooperation in research and education, build multidisciplinary teams, and define initiatives and priorities for 2027. These sessions will draw on the experience gained through HUC programs such as the Matching Seed Fund, Virtual Research Internships, Student Dialogues, and the Social Ideas Challenge.
The agenda will also offer opportunities to exchange institutional practices related to sustainability and the development of globally conscious leaders, as well as informal spaces for networking, a campus visit, and cultural activities hosted by Universidad de los Andes.
Following the General Assembly, representatives of HUC universities will have the opportunity to participate in a Partner Day aimed at identifying common interests and exploring new possibilities for bilateral and multilateral collaboration.
The 2026 General Assembly will be a key milestone for the Consortium: an opportunity to celebrate the progress achieved, expand and strengthen the HUC community, deepen relationships among its members, and collectively shape the next stage of the Consortium’s work across the Americas.
