first steps to implement linked data at the University of miami law school library

 

OBJECTIVE 

Share the experience of the Libraries at the University of Miami in the areas of cataloging and metadata, implementing the BIBFRAME pilot project for linked data in the library catalog.

 

DESCRIPTION

The aim is to share the experience of the cataloging and metadata team using tools such as “Sinopia” (linked data editor) and export them to the Library Management System. Experiences of adoption and incorporation of Linked Data identifiers (URIs) in the libraries of the University of Miami will be shared, to implement the first BIBFRAME pilot project in the library catalog. This talk provides an overview and shared knowledge gained during the pilot project implementation journey.

Margarita Perez Martinez

University of Miami College of Law Library

Margarita Perez Martinez is the Metadata Librarian and Institutional Repository Manager at the University of Miami College of Law Library. She has a master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of South Florida (USF). She is a graduate of Tecnológico de Monterrey with a degree in Computer Systems Engineering. Since 2005 she has been carrying out projects in academic libraries and has acquired extensive experience in the subject of metadata management, cataloging, library management systems, and digital repositories. She has a special interest in technology and its appropriate use in libraries to improve the services offered to the community.
